Course Objective:

To provide the dental team with research and information needed to build a foundation for children and adolescents to have optimal oral and general health now and throughout life.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Identify the chronic diseases and conditions affecting children today
  2. Discuss the impact of nutrition and physical activity on obesity and diabetes
  3. Understand the impact of active and involuntary smoking on general health
  4. List the effects of diabetes, obesity, smoking, and asthma on oral health
  5. Evaluate the measures available for caries and gingivitis reduction and recommend products/regimens appropriate to need
  6. Describe strategies for talking to patients and their families about chronic health conditions
